Product Description

Sky’s Offroad Design offers heavy-duty forged steel pitman arms for 1980–1997 Ford F-Series trucks and Broncos. Available in stock (flat), 2.5-inch drop, and 4-inch drop configurations, these pitman arms provide steering solutions for factory Dana 60 trucks, solid axle swaps, shackle reversal installations, lifted suspensions, and crossover steering conversions.

The factory 1985–1997 F-350 4x4 pitman arm is longer than other OBS Ford pitman arms, providing the steering throw needed to achieve full turning radius with a Dana 60 front axle.

When converting an F-250 or other compatible Ford platform to a Dana 60, selecting the proper pitman arm is essential for maintaining steering travel and proper steering geometry.

Our stock-height F-350 pitman arm is also commonly used with crossover steering systems on vehicles with less than 8 inches of lift, depending on the steering configuration.

Available Pitman Arm Options

Stock Height / Flat Pitman Arm

• Factory-style 1985–1997 F-350 4x4 pitman arm geometry.

• Longer steering throw than other OBS Ford factory pitman arms.

• Recommended for factory-height Dana 60 applications and appropriate solid axle conversions.

• Commonly used with crossover steering systems under 8 inches of lift.

2.5" Drop Pitman Arm

• Recommended for many 2–3 inch shackle reversal applications using factory-height springs.

• Designed to work with corresponding 2-inch or 3-inch drop panhard (track bar) brackets.

• Helps maintain appropriate steering and suspension geometry when matched with the correct components.

4" Drop Pitman Arm

• Intended for applications requiring additional steering linkage drop.

• Commonly paired with a 4-inch drop panhard bracket.

• May be used with certain 5-inch shackle reversal installations when a full crossover steering conversion is not being performed.

• An adjustable track bar is recommended for fine-tuning axle position in these applications.

Tie Rod / Drag Link Taper Options

Available taper configurations include:

• Ford factory taper

• GM small taper

• GM large taper

• Ford coil-spring axle conversion taper

Important: Choose the stock Ford application for optional reaming unless you are installing a 2005+ Ford coil-spring front axle or using a GM tie rod end. Select the taper that matches your actual drag link or tie rod end.

Application & Installation Recommendations

1985–1997 F-350 — Factory Dana 60 Front Axle

For trucks installing a 2–3 inch shackle reversal using stock-height springs, including the following Sky’s kits:

We generally recommend the 2.5-inch drop pitman arm combined with the appropriate 2-inch or 3-inch drop panhard bracket.

F-250 — Dana 60 Solid Axle Conversion (1980–1997 Axle)

Factory F-250 pitman arms have a shorter steering throw than the F-350 Dana 60 arm. To achieve full turning radius with a Dana 60 conversion, the factory F-350 pitman arm or an appropriately configured Sky’s drop arm is generally required.

The correct drop depends on the suspension components being installed, including:

• Factory F-350 leaf springs

• Aftermarket lift springs

• Super Duty leaf springs

• Shackle reversal kits

• Other suspension modifications

We recommend measuring the suspension and steering geometry before and after the conversion to determine the appropriate pitman arm.

When using a Dana 60 axle with factory F-350 springs, the steering recommendations will generally match those of the factory F-350 application.

5" Shackle Reversal Applications

A 5-inch shackle reversal significantly changes steering and suspension geometry. When combined with additional lift springs, a crossover steering conversion is generally the preferred solution.

Sky’s offers crossover steering systems for both:

• Dana 60 kingpin front axles

• Dana 60 ball joint front axles

For customers installing a 5-inch shackle reversal on a limited budget, an alternative configuration may include:

• 4-inch drop pitman arm

• 4-inch drop panhard (track bar) bracket

• Adjustable track bar

This combination can help improve steering geometry and axle positioning, but it is not a substitute for a properly designed crossover steering system and may not provide the same geometry or performance.

Important Fitment Notes

Pitman arm drop should be selected based on the complete suspension and steering configuration, not lift height alone.

Changing spring height, shackle geometry, axle type, steering linkage, or track bar position can affect steering geometry and clearance.

Verify sector shaft spline compatibility, drag link taper, steering travel, track bar geometry, and component clearance before installation. Check for steering linkage binding throughout the full suspension and steering range.
